Coping with Change and Adversity: Impact upon Leadership

James T. Reese, Ph.D., F.A.A.E.T.S., D.P.C.P.

Recent events have put the ‘spotlight’ on ethics-based leadership. Public servants are asked to do more with fewer employees, less equipment, diminishing support, and lower budgets. Your demanding ‘crisis-driven’ occupations create an environment in which you are asked to continue to act with courage and diligence, while dedicating yourselves to the well-being of others. Ethical behavior and integrity are essential components of coping with today’s changes. Too many leaders are concerned with “harmony”, rather than demanding “ethical behavior”. Why do decisions fail? What are the fatal errors of leaders? The greatest leaders in the world are, in actuality, servants to those who must follow them. Is your job a just a pension or is it a passion? Do you want to stay bitter or get better? As a bonus, learn how to motivate yourself and your employees!

Board Dynamics

Lee Moore Sr., General Manager, Clackamas River Water
Dean Phillips, Davis Wright Tremaine LLP

Dealing with difficult personalities? Can I be persuasive? Do I work for our customers or my board? How do I lead and survive in an environment where my volunteer or elected board is elected with a preconceived agenda?
