Fire Certification Standard Update with Rule Changes: NFPA Technical Rescuer Standards for Certification

On August 11, 2014, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1006 Technical Rescuer Task Force convened and concluded their work at the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST).  The Task Force met at the direction of the Fire Policy Committee (FPC) to discuss and review the 2013 standard. They determined it was in the best interest of the Oregon fire service to adopt into Oregon Administrative Rule (OAR) the 2013 Edition of NFPA 1006.

The FPC and the Board on Public Safety Standards and Training (Board) both approved the recommendation of the Task Force and the standard was posted for Public Comment from June 1-22, 2015. One public comment was received and brought forth to the Board on October 22, 2015. The Board heard and considered the public comment but decided to adopt the recommendations of the Task Force into permanent rule.

To review the OAR, please refer to sections 259-009-0005 and 259-009-0062 at http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/pages/rules/oars_200/oar_259/259_009.html

The Fire Certification Program and the Task Force have updated the application, task books, and guide to assist in the process. All documents can be found in the Fire Forms section of Fire Certification’s website at:
