OREGON FIRE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION

Oregon L.A.S.T

(Local Assistance State Team)

For Immediate assistance for an Oregon Line of Duty Death, please contact a L.A.S.T. coordinator below.

Dealing with a firefighter’s line-of-duty death is one of the most challenging experiences a fire department can encounter. The immediate aftermath of such a loss profoundly impacts the recovery process for the family, the department, and the community. Often, resource constraints and inadequate planning exacerbate the confusion and pain associated with these tragic events.

In such circumstances, the best support can often be found within the state or region where the department is located. Through a collaborative effort between the Department of Justice and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), resources and training have been instrumental in establishing Local Assistance State Teams. These teams are designed to deploy and provide essential assistance to fire departments and the families of firefighters who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.

Oregon L.A.S.T. is a diverse group of individuals, comprising members from various public safety sectors, as well as survivors of line-of-duty deaths and volunteers from different professions. Their unwavering commitment to helping those who have suffered the loss of a family member or department member in the line of duty drives their mission. The primary objective of the team is to provide comfort and assistance to the bereaved family and the department following a line-of-duty death, as well as facilitate the filing of federal, state, and local benefits.

What assistance can L.A.S.T. provide?
